According to the CDC, 1 in 10 American adults (more than 34 million) have diabetes and 90- 95% have Type 2 Diabetes. Type 2 is confirmed when one of the following is measured: fasting blood glucose level is above 126mg/dL/ A1C is above 6.5/ glucose tolerance test is above 200mg/dL.
Prediabetes occurs when cells in the body start to become insulin resistant, but you can think of it like a “check engine light” going off for you to try and “Prevent Diabetes (Type 2). Type 1 Diabetes is an disease condition where the pancreas produces little to no more insulin in the body. Type 2 Diabetes is a condition where the body becomes insulin resistant.
No, it’s not that simple. Eating a well balanced diet with adequate protein, carbohydrates (of which sugar is a possibility), and fats with plenty of fiber, adequate exercise and managed stress are all helpful ways to manage prediabetes.
The best diet is the one that works best for you that you will maintain and is preferably not a “diet” but food that you eat that honors your body’s needs and that you enjoy.
Similar to the prior question, the best form of exercise is the one that works best for you that you will keep doing at least 30 minutes a day 5 days/week.
Water - ideally with fresh lime slices. I love Topo Chico sparkling water (if you know, you know).
I do, just not a lot. I don’t believe in giving up any food group.
Treats are subjective and I treat myself every day.
Walking. If I’m not able to get outside, I love to use the the “Walk at Home” app or find one of the videos from Leslie Sansone on YouTube. I’ve done these in hotel bathrooms - they’re easy and I find most anyone can do them regardless of age or ability.
It would be unprofessional for me to make suggestions unless part of a protocol other than to say try to get outside every day and get some Vitamin D :)
It depends, but mostly chocolate.
